iOS 4 mobile OS hits the Apple iPhone, iPod, and iPad

Apple has released their next big firmware update dubbed “iOS4” for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, xcluding first generations, with loads of new features, including multitasking. Although the UI hasn’t changed much since the first firmware, but Apple has made huge improvements. The iOS 4.0 will support multitasking, allowing for multiple applications to be run at the same time. The long awaited feature will be native to the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4 but willn’t be supported on the iPhone 3G. Users will be able to run applications in the background while using another app, receiving updates and notifications without having the application displayed.

In order to get, first, you’ll need latest iTunes, 9.2. You can grab the iTunes update by using Software Update on your Mac, or by downloading it from Apple’s iTunes page. Of course, you’ll be prompted to agree to pages and pages of new Terms of Use once you install, but we’re all used to that by now. Once you’ve got iTunes up to date, plug in your iPhone in and make sure iTunes is open. This would probably be a good time to make a backup of your phone, in case anything goes wrong with the update. You can right-click (control-click on a Mac) on your device in the iTunes sidebar to bring up the backup option.
