Intel announced its low-power Atom processor line has two new models designed to be used in network attached storage in the home or small business setting: the 1.8GHz single core D425, and dual-core D525. These processors boost performance with higher CPU frequencies for faster storage processing and will support the new memory technology, double-data-rate three small outline dual in-line memory modules, also known as DDR3 SODIMM.
Intel says manufacturing partners have been building NAS solutions on the “Pineview” platform since March, utilizing the Atom D410 or D510 processors. Some are currently available, such as the Asus TS Mini, and the Synology Diskstation DS1010, and some will be released later in 2010.
The D425 and D525 are currently shipping to manufacturers.
