Inside Google Sitemaps: More about meta tag verification

Google Sitemaps is an easy way for you to submit all your URLs to the Google index and get detailed reports about the visibility of your pages on Google. With Google Sitemaps you can automatically keep us informed of all your web pages, and when you make changes to these pages to help improve your coverage in the Google crawl.

Untill now, only site owner’s were able to use Goolge’s Sitemap services to verify their site ownership by uploading Blank HTML file into the root directory. Making it impossible for the Blogger’s “who does not have own domain and using Bloggin Services like Blogsome, Blogger etc.” to verify ownership, as they have no access to root directory.

This new method will help Most site owners who can’t upload files or specify names for files to verify. For instance, if you use Blogsome or Blogger, you can verify using this option.

  • In the source code for that page.
  • In the first <head> section of the page, before the first <body> section.

You can’t place this tag inside of another tag in the head section.

For instance, this is correct:

The meta tag inside the style section is incorrect:

The meta tag inside the body section is incorrect:

The meta tag on a page with no head section is incorrect:
