Improvements to Google+ Button and Google+ badge Released; Now Open Email Links in Gmail Using Chrome, Firfox and IE

Google+ buttonIn Google+ new, first Google announced that over a “million websites now use Google+ plugins — like the +1 button and the badge for Pages” — to help visitors connect with their brand and share their content with others.

Second, the company rolled a improvements to these plugins including:

Easier to share from the +1 button all across the web. Now, after you +1 something, the share box will pop open right away, without an extra click. Add a comment if you want, choose the people you want to share with, and you’re done.

Easier to follow brands and businesses
Google made an update to badges for Google+ pages to read “Follow.” “With just one click, this button adds a business or brand to your “Following” circle, and if you want to customize which circle they’re in, you can do that too,” informs Google.

If you’re one of the many businesses and brands with a Google+ page, Google has also put together a handy style guide (pdf) which includes recommended language and images for promoting your page.

Adding a badge for people, not just pages
“Now anyone can add a personal Google+ badge to their web pages, and let visitors add them to circles quickly and easily.”

Also, starting today, when you go to Gmail in Chrome, you will be asked if you want Gmail to open all email links (the feature uses magic of HTML5). Say yes, and clicking on email links in any application on your computer will open a fresh Gmail compose window, informs Google.

You can also set Gmail as your default mail client in Firefox and Internet Explorer.

Finally, the following features which were previously launched in Gmail, are now available to Google Apps, Google Apps for Business, Government and Education users:

  • Connected profiles. If your contact has a Google profile, their contact entry will be updated with the profile information they’ve shared with you, including phone numbers, email addresses and more. If they change it in the future, you’ll get those updates automatically. (This has worked for profiles internal to the domain for quite some time, but now we’ve enabled it for profiles external to the domain as well.)
  • Circles in Contacts. If you are a Google+ user, your circles will appear in your contact list, making it easier for you to view the contact information for all of the members of a circle in one place.
