Hyper-V and Legacy Server Applications – Part 2

In the first part of this series, mentioned that although Windows NT was not officially supported in a Hyper-V environment, this post will discuss how to install Windows NT on a virtual machine. In order to perform installation, you are actually going to need four different versions of Windows: 1) Windows Server 2008 running on the server that will be hosting your virtual machine, 2) a running Windows XP with CD / DVD burner installed, 3) a Windows NT Server 4.0 installation media, and finally, 4) Windows 98 with a valid license and a copy of the installation CD will suffice.

The basic idea is that we are going to create a Windows 98 boot disk, and then use that to load our CD / DVD drivers, and to prepare the virtual hard drive. Once we have done that, we can install Windows NT.
