Here’re the steps to use Windows PowerShell cmdlets for configuring Remote Desktop licensing settings on a RemoteFX-enabled RD Virtualization Host server in Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
Because there’s no GUI interface for specifying licensing configuration on an RD VHS, support has been provided in PowerShell to enable this scenario. As a result, a VDI admin who doesn’t want (RemoteFX-enabled) RD VHS’s licensing settings to be centrally managed (from RD Connection Broker server) can manually configure these settings on RD VHS(s) in VDI deployment by using following PowerShell cmdlets:
“These settings will be used by this RD VHS to perform license validations for the vm connection requests whenever applicable. These settings will be overwritten by centralized licensing settings if the admin enables “Central Licensing Management” mode on the RD CBS server that manages this RD VHS.
If these licensing settings need to be modified later, in an elevated PowerShell command prompt, execute the command: import-module remotedesktopservices; cd RDS:\RDVHConfiguration\LicensingSettings, and then update Remote Desktop licensing mode or the list of RD license servers as desired,” explains Microsoft.
