Are you an organized person? If not, you should be, especially in the computer field because your PC is like your own room. The bigger the chaos inside, the more difficult is to find the desired items. Well, it is true that computers have a major advantage over any other physical organized database providing the search function which should find your lost things.
You might say that using search can save you from the duty of organizing things on your computer. It may be true but let me tell you about the settings…once they are messed up you will need to start all over again which I assure you it is not pleasant at all.
For this matter of fact, users started organizing the work on computer by using profiles. If your computer is accessed by more than one person except yourself, it is recommended that you create a separate profile for each user. This measure will save you a lot of trouble. Why start restoring settings all over again after you “friend” messed with them?
I personally prefer to use profiles starting with the operating system and ending even with the smallest and insignificant application that permits profile managing. No later trouble for a great deal – only maximum 1 minute spent on configuring my profiles.
Browsers are some of the most indispensable applications for our everyday work. Using browsers means properly setting up the interface look for a comfortable experience. And because there are millions of users with billions of whims, I recommend using profiles. The whole family can use the same computer and each member would like the browser to act and look in a different way.
Because I mentioned the browser context situation, let’s take a look at Mozilla Firefox, a people’s choice application that keeps rising everyday. Normally, if you check for all the available settings, you will notice that there is no option regarding the maintenance and customization of profiles.
Hard to believe because such applications would need a profile manager. Doing some research, I discovered that users can create their own profiles besides the default one. To access the Firefox’s Profile Manager, you need to add a parameter at the program startup.
Therefore, go to Start > Run and type firefox.exe -p.
Once you typed the command, the Profile Manager window should have come up. You will see there is just one profile created, the default one. Now you are able to Create, Edit or Delete profiles. Click on “Create Profile” in order to add your personal profile. In the next screen, just provide the name of the profile and the location where is it to be stored. (You can simply leave the default location).
Now, in the list, you got the default profile and your personal profile. To easily work with your bookmarks, mail and preferences, just use your own profile. If there are other users that often use Firefox, create additional profiles for them avoiding any conflicts. Isn’t it simple? And you didn’t even know about it!
