Heated Touchscreen intro for Windows XP embedded PCs

Glacier Computer has introduced a novel heated touchscreen option for its Windows XP Embedded-based industrial computer. Intended for forklift, cart, or pallet mounting, the “Everest” keeps its screen clear even when wheeled in and out of a freezer, according to the company.

As the aptly named company explains, moving a computer into and out of a cold storage environment causes condensation on its screen, and then a re-freezing of that condensation, making the screen temporarily unusable. However, the Everest’s clear touchscreen heater eliminates this problem, the company says.

While Glacier provided no information on how much power the heater requires, battery consumption is not an issue. That’s because while it resembles a tablet PC, the Everest is actually an all-in-one device intended for fixed mounting. Its power supply accepts external 10-60 VDC input and has built-in UPS functionality.

The Everest is available with a Celeron M processor in 600MHz and 1GHz versions, or a 1.4GHz Pentium M. It includes either a 10.4-inch or 12.4-inch touchscreen, a 2.5-inch hard disk drive or SSD (solid-state disk) option, and up to 1GB of RAM.
