Health Speaks: Google’s Pilots in Arabic, Hindi and Swahili

In most parts of the world, quality information to help improve people health isn’t available online in local languages. Google introduces “Health Speaks,” an initiative to help communities overcome this obstacle by translating high-quality health information into their languages — from English into Arabic, Hindi and Swahili.

Google’s calling people with health knowledge and bilingual in English, Arabic, Hindi or Swahili to take part. Google also funded professional translation of a subset of good quality English language health articles from Wikipedia that’ll be translated with Google Translator Toolkit.

Additionally, Google provide incentive to encourage community translators to participate. For first 60 days, Googl’ll donate 3 US cents for each English word translated to Children’s Cancer Hospital Egypt 57357, Public Health Foundation of India and theAfrican Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) for pilots in Arabic, Hindi and Swahili, respectively, up to $50,000 each.
