Harmonix have now confirmed their work on something new, a new music-centred title which will embrace far more than simply guitars, and will go by the name of ‘Rock Band’.
EA and MTV will help the developer create the new title, which is set to blend more complex rhythm-action fun with elements of karaoke too. A release this Christmas on the PS3 and Xbox 360 is planned, though there’s no word on the Wii, despite the obvious uses to which the console’s controllers could be put in such a game.
Via Rock Band’s online mode you’ll be able to form ‘bands’ with other players, and the game’s tunes will be knocked-out on lead guitar, bass guitar, drums and vocals – a far more complex symphony than Harmonix’s Guitar Hero series – now in the hands of Neversoft.
Hit songs from major ‘official’ artists will also be downloadable online, no doubt as ‘premium content’, and all in all the developer are highly enthused by the new title, which is said to expand upon GH ‘tenfold’. “We’ll be covering a great breadth, from metal to classic rock to Southern rock to everything in between,” Alex Rigopulos explains.
