Here’s an interesting article on how to have your Windows Home Server shut down remote computers. So lets say that you have your WHS plugged into a UPS, preferably an APC UPS with AVR, and one of you computers resides on the same UPS. Or if you have two computers that are powered by one UPS in a power outage/failure. Only problem is that with a UPS the communication port from the UPS can notify only one computer. So how do you get the second computer to shutdown without you having to be there?
- UPS integration into Windows Home Server
- Accessing the hidden Administrator account in Windows Vista (This is needed or else there is no step 3)
- Creating and Implementing the Remote Shutdown Script
