Google announced of adding “universal search features” to Google Suggest, and release of a powerful new extension for Google Chrome called “Google Quick Scroll”, to extend power of Google search beyond results page.
- Universal search features in Google Suggest: there’re currently 10 features available that display instant answers: weather, flight status, local time, area codes, package tracking, answers, definitions, calculator, currency and unit conversions. “This kind of information’ll appear in Suggest either above or below suggested search terms for a variety of queries. For e.g., you can type “delta 140” to see flight status. You can also quickly discover current time, figure out how many Euros you’ll get per dollar, or even brush up on metric conversions.”
- Google Chrome’s Quick Scroll enables you to use Google’s search capabilities even after leaving results page. After clicking a result, most searchers end up scrolling around looking for relevant sections of page. With Quick Scroll, process of finding relevant content and scrolling to it happens automatically, as an extension of your Google search. “Quick Scroll black box appears in lower right hand corner of browser, showing one or more bits of text from the page that are relevant to your query. Clicking on the text will take you to that part of the page. Quick Scroll appears only when it is likely to be useful.”
