Google has launched some new features in the Search Console, Merchant Center and Manufacturer Center for sites dealing in products.
The update will assist all online retailers in providing the most accurate and up-to-date information to customers about their products on Google platform.
Brands and merchants, adds structured data markup like product description, ratings, and price to their product pages, Google then use these rich snippets on Google Images and Search results.
Products Report in Search Console
A new report called “Products” is now available in the Google Search Console that will show how well a product markup is performing in Google Search results.
All sites that make use of schema.org structured data markup to annotate product information can use this report.
The report notifies any issues detected related to the structured markup.
When pending error(s) is fixed, the report let site owners validate the affected page and request a re-crawl.

This expansion of rich snippets to Merchant Center is currently launched in the United States only.
Google notes all retailers selling products online in the US are eligible to upload a product data feed directly to Google.
It will begin to support this capability in other countries later this year.
Google says, retailers accessing this capability neither need a Google Ads campaign nor required to make any “payment.”
The only eligibility requirement is a Merchant Center account to upload a product data feed.
Manufacturer Center Update
Google also added new abilities for manufacturers to improve the visibility of their products in Google search results.
Manufacturers can now directly provide product information including product description, variants, and rich content, including high-quality images and videos through Google Manufacturer Center.
Once the product information is uploaded, it will appear on the product’s knowledge panel.

In other news on structured data, Google’s John Mueller said do not use Google Tag Manager to implement structured data.
Furthermore he advised to make on-page SEO visible for Google to see.
Mueller explains, Google algorithms can use structured data when it’s visible on the page.
“On-page SEO should really be visible — it’s hard for Google’s algorithms to give something appropriate weight if we determine that it’s never visible.”
“For example, when adding structured data, our goal is to only use it when we see that it’s visible on the page.”
