Back in May at I/o, a new way for site owners to present previews of their content on the Search results page through Rich Cards was introduced and today, Google expanding it to two new verticals Local restaurants and Online courses in additon to already existing Movies and Recipes.
These new rich verticals are currently available to US-based sites, with search results are presented in a new user interface, like “carousels that are easy to browse by scrolling left and right,” or a “vertical three-pack that displays more individual courses,” Google said.
You can see these richer search results by searching queries for example [best New Orleans restaurants] and [leadership courses].
While AMP HTML isn’t required for these new verticals, but still Google recommend creating it, as AMP will bring a consistently faster user experience.”Users who tap on your Rich Card will be taken near instantly to your AMP page, and be able to swipe between pages within your site,” Google added.
Furthermore, Google said new verticals are currently in experimental stage for a global launch.
Google updated their technical implementation document and also made some changes in its tools for Rich Cards:
- Structured Data Testing Tool displays markup errors and a preview card for Local restaurant content as it might appear on Search.
- Rich Cards report in Search Console shows which cards across verticals contain errors, and which ones could be enhanced with more markup.
- AMP Test helps validate AMP pages as well as mark up on the page.
