Google proposes to ‘disclose AdSense commissions’ in Italy antitrust case

In August 2009, the regulator began the probe after the Italian Federation of Newspaper Editors alleged that any publication refusing to appear on Google News Italia website was excluded from Google’s search engine. Italian Federation of Newspaper and Periodical Publishers (FIEG) asked Italy’s AGCM to examine if Google’s acting in an anti-competitive manner. Google has proposed (italian) to AGCM, “Google said in a statement that it had agreed to continue for three years its programme allowing allows publishers to opt out of Google News while leaving their content in Google search. This wouldn’t prevent the same content from appearing when users search for it using the general Google search engine, the group said in a statement published on the website of the Italian competition authority, Antitrust. Google also pledged more transparency in its policy for sharing advertising revenue with newspaper publishers. Antitrust said it would finish evaluating Google’s proposals by the end of September.”
