Google+ Notifications, Hangout and More Added to Google Glass

Google Glass a pre-release product update dubbed “XE5” added some new core functionality that include: inbound notifications from Google+, so you can see direct shares, comments and mentions, as well as comment and +1 those updates.

There are also Hangout notifications, as well as faster transcription, and a long-press to activate search function available throughout the UI.

In addition, the following features are also available with this update:

  • “a better crash reporting;
  • international number dialling and SMS support;
  • better and more accurate battery information reporting;
  • a new sync policy designed to stop you dipping too far into your data policy and your battery life.”

Also, a third-party Facebook app is now available for Glass, and creates a photo album for you that will start piling up your Glass-taken photos.

The setup is similar to that of other third-party apps like GlassTweet, but requires you to give Facebook permissions to post to your timeline. It only takes a few seconds to get going. After you’ve turned on the Glass To Facebook sharing contact within MyGlass and approve the permissions on Facebook, you’re ready to start posting. Just take a photo and choose the Glass To Facebook option.

Glassagram app is adding filters to Glasse’s photos. Once you sign up for Glassagram, you simply share a photo with the service, then a card is sent back to your Glass timeline with all of your filtered options.

“Once you get your options, simply scroll your way through them and reshare the one that tickles your fancy. It looks like you’ll get five different filtered options for your photo. The nice part about this is that it’s all done through the Glass UI, so you don’t need your phone or the web to do anything,” explains TechCrunch.

Finally, a new Google Glass app called “Glassnost” connects to your Glass device, allowing you to share photos to the site, view them, while visitors can “like” them.

Glassnost tries to intelligently alert you on the traction of your photos, giving you aggregated like numbers as your photo gets more popular.

The best part of the app is that once your photos get enough “likes,” your Glass device will start getting alerted that what you’ve shared has struck a chord.
