Google Maps for iOS getting in-line with its Android counter part today introduces one-tap access to real-time commute information and places around you with new driving directions, transit info & explore nearby
Exactly a year after launching real-time information at the bottom of the home screen tfor Google Maps on Android, Google has now rolled out that same useful update to iOS.
Now a simple swipe up will show three new tabs, that include: an explore tab, driving tab and transit tab–so that you will be able to find a nearby restaurant, beat traffic, or catch the next bus.
The explore or places tab will show you curated lists of places, like “best dinners,” “cheap eats” or “business dining,” around you or in any location you choose.
In addition, with just a one tap you will be able search for other spots, like ATMs, pharmacies, gas stations and grocery stores. Peek at images of the area or read a short description of the neighborhood to get the lay of the land.

If you’ve home and work addresses saved, the driving tab will show you real-time ETAs to home and work, as well as your nearby traffic conditions and expected delays on the road ahead.
Incase, you only want real-time traffic info on your usual route, just tap on “start driving” to go directly into driving mode when you don’t need turn-by-turn directions.

With transit tab, you’ll see recommendation for which bus or train to take, when the next one’s coming, and an ETA for when you’ll arrive at work or home—obviously, you need to have home and work address saved.
Just swipe down to find nearby transit stations along with real-time schedules when elsewhere.
