Google Chrome Web Store – First Chrome app ready to try

Google Chrome Web Store will be available to users later this year and is “an open marketplace for web apps”. Chrome users will be able to “install” web apps by adding a shortcuts in Chrome tab page. When you “install” an app, it can integrate with the browser by using advanced features that require permission: local storage, user’s location, notifications. Also, developers will’ve an option to easily sell their apps through the store using a convenient and secure payment system. “An installed web app could be separated visually from other tabs, could integrate better with the OS, and could be granted increased permissions. This special handling of web apps is exactly what we’re working on in Google Chrome,” explains Google.

Here’s how to try out apps: Start Chrome with the —enable-extension-apps flag. Simply right click your shortcut and edit it to have following properties: “chrome.exe –enable-extension-apps”; finally, click here in Chromium to install to app, and try it out!
