Fring Skype team is “cowards,” Skype says Fring “violate the terms of use”

Fring, enables VoIP (Voice over IP) phone calling to both Fring and Skype contacts, and recently enabled video chat on its iPhone app. Until that point, iPhone 4 users wanting to take advantage of the video chat functionality made possible by the device’s front-facing camera had to use Facetime, which was only available on WiFi networks. Fring’s iPhone 4 two-way video calling feature over 3G networks, which used Skype, no longer works.

Fring says Skype blocked its access to the Skype API and then threatened to sue. In a press release, Fring calls “They’re afraid of open mobile communication. “cowards”, and alleges anti-competitive behavior.”

On the other side, Skype says that “Fring removed the Skype functionality itself, and that Fring was also using Skype’s APIs in ways that violate the terms of use. According to Skype’s Robert Miller, “o ver time, Fring’s misuse of our software was increasingly damaging our brand and reputation with our customers.””
