FriendFeed adds discussion “Rooms”

FriendFeed, the ex-Google employees owned social networking site, added a new functionality called “room!”. A room is a public or private area or a mini FriendFeed for a particular subject or group of people. You can make a room for your family, your work team, or your knitting club. If you’d like to see what a room looks like, check out the FriendFeed News room, a public room where people share and discuss FriendFeed in the press. Everyone in your room can share stuff with each other and leave comments that only other people in your room can see. You decide whether to make your room public, where anyone can join, or private, where you have to invite or approve each member. You can even choose to view everything from your rooms in your feed, instead of just in the rooms themselves.

Items from a room can also be optionally viewed on your FriendFeed homepage. Should you decide to do this and a shared item from a private room shows, a lock item will be displayed next to it. This new feature also means that when you hit the “Share something” button now, there’s a selection box to select either your main feed or another room. Also, there is now a “Reshare this entry” link in the More menu, which lets you to copy an item you see in Friendfeed to another room.
