Flash Media Gateway (FMG) Enables VoIP and Video Conferencing using Adobe Flash and AIR Apps

Adobe said that you’ll soon be able to make VoIP calls right from Flash Player using a real-time server solution called “Flash Media Gateway” from Adobe, which enables Adobe Flash and Adobe AIR apps to make calls to landlines, cell phones, and computers using an SIP gateway.

The way it works is that Flash Player connects to Flash Media Server, which connects to Flash Media Gateway, which connects to SIP network and then call ends up in a classic telephone.

And if you happen to have a webcam, it’ll even support video chat using H.264.

FMG can be used to enable existing Flash Player installations into as many voice end-points connected to your network. With Flash, you can deploy rich communication services without requiring a client download. It also enables Flash developers enhance user experience by creating a new category of rich-connected/engaging apps. Adobe Connect web conferencing software uses FMG to enable Universal voice and Video Telephony capabilities.
