Microsoft posted an KB article KB940845 about an issue on SBS 2008/2011 when you reboot the server, you may notice that some of the Exchange services that are set to automatic start are not started.
Some of the services that may not be started are:
- Microsoft Exchange Information Store
- Microsoft Exchange RPC Client Access (SBS 2011 Server Only)
- Microsoft Exchange Forms Based Authentication (SBS 2011 Server Only)
If you attempt to manually start the services, the services should start correctly.
This problem occurs because the domain controller and other Exchange-Server-dependent services do not start completely when Exchange Server 2007 or Exchange Server 2010 try to start.
Microsoft has released a Fix It that will adjust the service dependencies on the Exchange Services so that the services will start automatically on a reboot. If your server experiences the problem of the Exchange services not starting automatically, its’ recommended you use the “Fix It” to resolve the problem.
