Facebook Offer Advertisers More Control Over Ad Placements on In-stream & Instant Articles

Facebook already had been providing advertisers with the necessary tools to control where their ads appear on its platform, today announced additional features that will be giving them more control over placements of ads on in-stream, Instant Articles and Audience Network.

These controls include “block lists,” ability to exclude brand-sensitive content categories as well as Monetization Eligibility Standards.

Using the block lists, advertisers can stop their ads from delivering alongside specific publishers and apps.

Advertisers can also exclude brand-sensitive content categories of ads across in-stream videos, Instant Articles and Audience Network.

While the Monetization Eligibility Standards give clear standards for publishers and creators whose content are eligible for ads.

Publisher Lists Expansion

Since last fall, Facebook has offered advertisers with a list of publishers monetizing their sites and apps on Audience Network, enabling them to review the list to decide if there are any sites and apps where they do not want to show their ads.

This publisher list is now expanded to include Instant Articles and in-stream videos. The company notes it will help advertisers to view a list to see where their ads might be delivered prior to starting a campaign, as well as the ability to continuously review and update their block lists.

New Publisher Delivery Reports

To increase even more this publisher-level transparency, Facebook is introducing new publisher delivery reports for Facebook in-stream, Instant Articles, and Audience Network.

By downloading these reports, advertisers can also now view a complete list of sites and apps where their ads have appeared

Advertisers will now have an ability to review their ads across contextual placements and then update their block lists by placing restrictions on publishers and content categories accordingly.

Facebook has also published steps to help advertisers download their publisher lists:

  1. Go to Ads Manager
  2. Click the hamburger button in the top left and select “Business Settings” from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click Block lists on the menu on the left.
  4. Click Manage.
  5. Click See Where Ads Could Appear.

Or, here is an alternate method to download the list:

  1. Go to Business Manager
  2. Click the hamburger menu button in the top left to open the drop-down menu.
  3. Choose Block Lists under Assets.
  4. Click Publisher list at the top.
  5. Click the blue Download Publisher List button. You’ll see when the List updated below.

Facebook notes, they will continue to build more capabilities to offer advertisers more choice and control over their campaigns as part of the brand safety.

These changes are rolling out gradually, so all advertisers may not have access yet.
