Facebook Messenger Platform launched less than six months ago, today updates to v1.2 with improvements aimed to enhance interactions between people, brands and businesses.
Messenger as a destination for News Feed Ads i.e. [ads in News Feed] begun rolling out. With that advertisers can now use any call-to-action in their ad, such as “Shop Now” or “Learn more” to link to Messenger. “All clicks on those News Feed ads will directly open up a Messenger thread with a copy of ad or configurable structured message,” writes dev team.
Developers and businesses will see a similiar [existing Facebook ads] option, to select target audiences and delivery times.
With this update, developers and businesses now have the ability to bring more UI elements inside their customers and users threads.
Moving forward, using a simplified payment and checkout experience, users can check out faster in Messenger threads with payment information stored on their Messenger and Facebook.
Also, “messages with payments” begun rolling out allow businesses to sell products/services directly in Messenger. In additon, “payments through enhanced Messenger mobile web view in a closed beta will be available to some developers,” dev team noted. Adding, it said a more broad roll out will happen soon.
This payments option in closed beta currently available in the US only.
Enhanced mobile websites beta allow people seamless interaction with a business’ mobile website within Messenger. “Businesses and developers can customize the height of their website and use partial heights to create richer interactions in threads without losing context of the conversation within Messenger,” team noted.
Starting today, users can easily share bots they discover by simply clicking “share icon” attached to a message bubble. When people share bots direclty, their friends will receive a message with bot name, icon and button to start a thread with that particular bot.
The updated platform now also includes a welcome screen with customized text so people can easily kick off a new thread with your bot with business and services on Messenger. “Welcome screen provide information about bot, including associated Page category, response time and capabilities provided on Messenger.”
Businesses can customize their introductory text via Page settings. This feature will be available to all businesses on Messenger later this week.
Also, you can now re-use the same attachment on subsequent media sends, enabling broadcasting and providing fast multimedia send times.
Facebook also shared some statics like:
- more than 1 billion people use Messenger each month,
- developers and businesses have built over 30,000 bots for Messenger,
- onboarded over 34,000 developers.
Additionally, quick replies now include sharing of location and icons for a more guided experience for people as they interact with a business or developers’ bot.
Developers can now downlload app-level analytics including error and block rates, “via CSV in app settings,” writes dev team.
