Recently, a @BingGives Twitter follower asked what else she could do, now that she had donated her Donorschoose.org redemption code. Bing Maps team has done an amazing job of creating numerous map applications that help users find nearby schools that need donations, or have open volunteer positions. What’s even more amazing is how simple and unique these mapping functions are. Here, let’s get started:
You’ll find Bing Maps on the left navigation bar of the Bing Homepage. Click it.
You’ll see some additional mapping options on the left, so let’s check out the applications (see above).
There’re tons of apps to choose from, that find cheaper gas, hotel vacancies, or how much a cab fare will be from point A to point B. There’re two education-based apps: The Bing Education Map and Donorschoose.org Map. Simply select one of these apps, and you’ll bring up a geo-located map of your general region, with info pins. The color-coded “pins” that correspond with a type of giving opportunity (volunteering, mentoring, donations, etc).
Clicking on these “pins” will also bring up more detailed info, either on a Donorschoose.org project that you can help fund, or a school that needs financial or volunteering assistance. Here, we’ve selected a DC.org project from Graham Hill Elementary in Seattle. All the info about the teacher, his/her project, and the school is easily accessible.
