DNS and the DC Locator SRVs

“what is an SRV and why is it important to domain controllers?”. SRVs are the DNS records which domain controllers register in DNS in order to advertise the services which they can provide to clients and other domain controllers in the domain. These SRVs are used to advertise general DC location, Kerberos, LDAP, Global Catalog and perhaps other services depending on your environment. Domain members and other domain controllers, as a matter of course, will query DNS to locate the appropriate domain controller to send requests to.
