Dean A. Klein – Future of Memory and Storage “Technet Spotlight On Demand Video”

The systems of tomorrow will have additional processor cores that promise to deliver exponential increases in processor capabilities. However, memory and storage systems are not keeping pace with the potential of these processor enhancements. Sometimes fundamental limitations of physics impede progress and economic forces impede the promise of increased performance. This session explores the hierarchy of memory and storage in computing systems, the limitations of each, and solutions to these problems.

Demonstrations focus on main memory footprint and performance and NAND SSD usage. DRAM suppliers who provide parts that continue to deliver low cost-per-bit main-memory solutions, processor suppliers and memory suppliers who work together to develop devices and innovative packaging solutions that solve the physics problems, hard disk drive suppliers who continue to deliver reliable, low-cost-per-bit mass storage and incremental increases of interface speed, and SSD designers who develop solutions that deliver the performance of the NAND devices to the system rather than to adapt low-end compact flash controllers will benefit from this session.
