BUILD: Team Foundation Service Developer Preview ‘Introduction’

At BUILD, Satya Nadella announced the Team Foundation Service Preview (TFS). You may have received an invitation code from the BUILD conference, or from a friend. Getting Started

In this video, we look at how to get started with the recently announced Team Foundation Service Preview at tfspreview.com. Once you have your invitation code we show you how to create an account and create your first team project. We then take a look around some of the key feature areas in your Team Foundation Service Preview account. Finally we look at how to install the update into Visual Studio to allow you to connect to the Team Foundation Service Preview from Visual Studio 2010.

Manage Security:

In this video, we examine how to manage security within the Team Foundation Service Preview including how to add and configure new members to your teams. We also take a deep dive into the security configuration capabilities of Team Foundation Server and how to check the effective permissions of a user or group through the web site.

Agile Project Management:

In this video, we look at how to set up, plan, and manage a project using the new agile planning tools in the Team Foundation Service Preview. First you’ll learn how to easily prioritize your backlog and decompose the work into the appropriate level of granularity. Next, you’ll see how to plan a sprint and leverage your teams capacity when making a commitment. Finally, we show you how to use the built in task board to manage the work throughout the sprint while keeping an eye on the progress of your team.

Using Visual Studio, Microsoft Test Manager, and Eclipse:

In this video, we will look at using the Team Foundation Service Preview from Visual Studio, Microsoft Test Manager and Eclipse.

For Visual Studio 2010 and Microsoft Test Manager 2010 you first need to make sure that you are running Service Pack 1. Then you will need to make sure you have the hotfix KB2581206 installed to connect and authenticate with your account URL. For Eclipse, you will need to install the TFS plug-in for Eclipse from the Team Explorer Everywhere 11 Developer Preview.

Team Build:

In this video, we look at how to configure and use a build server in your own organization for use with the Team Foundation Service Preview. To do this you will need to install and configure the build service from the Team Foundation Server 11 Developer Preview installation. The developer preview is currently available to MSDN Subscribers via the Subscriber Downloads section. When the preview is publicly available we will publish the download link here.

This video shows you how to install and configure the build service and attach it to your service preview account. You will see the process of configuring your build server using Visual Studio 2010 SP1 with the service preview hotfix (KB2581206) installed. Finally, learn how to create an automated build from Visual Studio using your newly installed build server and how to access the build results via the web.
