According to the latest Experian Hitwise data, Bing and Yahoo both grew more than 5% in March and now combine for 30.01% market share of all U.S. searches conducted in the four weeks ending April 2, 2011
Google accounted 64.42%, Bing-powered search comprised 30.01%, with Yahoo! Search and Bing receiving 15.69% and 14.32%, respectively. The remaining 69 search engines accounted for 5.58%
Yahoo! Search and Bing achieved the highest success rates in March 2011 — both search engines, more than 80% of searches executed resulted in a visit to a Website. Google achieved a success rate of 66%.
Longer search queries — five to eight words — were down 3% from Feb ’11 to Mar ’11. Shorter search queries — those averaging one to four words long — increased 1%. One-word searches comprised the majority of searches, amounting to 24.40% of all queries, a 2% increase.
