The Feature Pack 1 for SharePoint Server 2016 offer improvements to administrative actions, MinRole, OneDrive for Business, custom tiles and more to extend support for hybrid scenarios and developer needs is become available as on Tuesday Nov 8th.
This release will add two new previews of SharePoint hybrid auditing and Hybrid taxonomy is also making in to this release.
SharePoint hybrid auditing preview unified across site collections on-premises and in Office 365. Microsoft SharePoint Insights is a new hybrid feature that aims at helping administrators manage their SharePoint infrastructure by giving them access to various reports and dashboards in Office 365. The reports generated from SharePoint 2016 Preview on-premises diagnostic and usage logs.
If you opt in for this service, audit logs get collected and uploaded to Office 365 regularly. From the Office 365 dashboard, you can view auditing and activity reports that show usage and reliability patterns in your SharePoint Server farm.
Hybrid taxonomy preview allows customers to bring their taxonomy store to Office 365 enabling a single-source for creating and managing Terms, Term Sets and Groups through a single Managed Metadata Service, Office team writes.
Other new features will be delivered through the November 2016 Public Update include:
- Administrative actions logging for common SharePoint administrative actions.
- MinRole enhancements to support small and medium-sized farms.
- A OneDrive for Business modern experience.
- Custom tiles in the SharePoint app launcher.
- Hybrid taxonomy unified across on-premises and Office 365.
- OneDrive API for SharePoint on-premises.
Back in August 2016, Microsoft announced that Office 365 Groups would get full-powered SharePoint team sites, is fiully available to all Office 365 First Release customers, as on Nov. 8th.
With today’s roll out, user will be able to create Office 365 Groups connected SharePoint team sites right from the SharePoint home in Office 365.
Additionally, admins can control how these new capabilities appear for their users, as well as adjusting site as business needs. Now, no matter where users create an Office 365 group (from Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Yammer and more), “they will consistently get a full-powered, modern SharePoint Online team site.”
Admins can also manage whether Create site appears at all, and when it does, as well adjust who sees the Create site button and what their provisioning experience should be (classic, modern or custom).
Users can also now create a modern page in a classic team site and declare it as the new, modern home page.
By just going to Site Pages library within Site contents, users can create a new, modern page and add web parts for the front of the team site, then select the page from within the Site Page library and choose Make homepage from the command bar above, explained Office team.

A great way to share dashboards, reports and data sets with coworkers is through using Power BI groups in Microsoft Teams. Both are built on Office 365.
