AJAX and Mozilla’s TAMARIN

Jim Plush posted about the —AJAX Applications have a bright future thanks to Mozilla’s “TAMARIN” on his blog —”Tamarin will integrate with Mozilla’s JS engine “SpiderMonkey” to allow javascript to execute much much faster than the current implementation. Tamarin is basically a virtual machine that will run inside SpiderMonkey. This will be a huge boost to all firefox extension developers as well since Mozilla based apps are built upon javascript. For those who have to create desktop style ajax applications on crappy hardware (266mhz) this is huge news.”

The goal of the “Tamarin” project is to implement a high-performance, open source implementation of the ECMAScript 4th edition (ES4) language specification. The Tamarin virtual machine will be used by Mozilla within SpiderMonkey, the core JavaScript engine embedded in Firefox®, and other products based on Mozilla technology. The code will continue to be used by Adobe as part of the ActionScript™ Virtual Machine within Adobe® Flash® Player.
