+1 Button: Bring Right Recommendations in Your Google Search Results; AdSense, AdWords, Google Apps and +1

Recently Google started including information from stuff shared on Twitter, Flickr and other sites–in Google search results.

Today, the search giant is enabling you to share recommendations with the world right in Google’s search results. It’s called “+1”– to recommend something, all you’ve to do is click +1 on a webpage or ad you find useful. These +1’s will then start appearing in Google’s search results.

The beauty of +1’s is their relevance–you get the right recommendations, at the right time and in the right format. For more info about +1, watch the video embedded below:

The +1 button doesn’t affect the AdSense ad units on your site, but it can improve the way your pages appear in Google search. Google cites an example, “When Brian signs in to his Google Account and sees your site in the organic search results on Google (or search ads if you’re using AdWords), he can +1 it and recommend your page to the world.”

“The next time Brian’s friend Mary is signed in and searching on Google and your page appears, she might see a personalized annotation letting her know that Brian +1’d it. So Brian’s +1 helps Mary decide that your site is worth checking out.”

“We expect that personalized annotations will help users know when your ads and organic search results are relevant to them, increasing the chances that they’ll end up on your site. You don’t have to make adjustments to your advertising strategy based on +1 buttons, and the way we calculate Quality Score isn’t changing (though +1s will be one of many signals we use to calculate organic search ranking). Think of +1 buttons as an enhancement that can help already successful search campaigns perform even better,” says Google AdWords blog.

“So how do we know which +1’s to show you? Like social search, we use many signals to identify the most useful recommendations, including things like the people you’re already connected to through Google (your chat buddies and contacts, for example). Soon we may also incorporate other signals, such as your connections on sites like Twitter, to ensure your recommendations are as relevant as possible. If you want to know who you’re connected to, and how, visit the “Social Circle and Content” section of the Google Dashboard,” explains Google.

To get started +1’ing the stuff you like, you’ll need to create a Google profile–or if you already have one, upgrade it. You can use your profile to see all of your +1’s in one place, and delete those you no longer want to recommend. To see +1’s in your search results you’ll need to be logged into your Google Account.

However, there’s one catch: the +1 button will only work if you’ve a Google Profile, which isn’t available in Apps yet. “Google’s bringing Profiles to Apps in a few weeks. Your organization will need to be set up to use additional Google apps to get Profiles when it’s available.”

“Profiles is an important companion to +1’s, but your profile is also a place for you to manage your online identity. Once it’s ready, Profiles can be turned on by your organization’s admins. Your profile will be public, so anyone on the web will be able to view it and your profile and +1’s will show up in search results,” revealed Google Apps blog.

Also, Google’s working on a embeddable +1 button, making it easy for people to recommend your content on Google search without leaving your site.

For now, it’s only avilable in English on Google.com.
