YouTube is gearing up to launch a series of new tools that will help users with their online digital wellbeing. No matter who you are—a power user or just a newbie watching videos online, these tools aims to help everyone in better understanding their YouTube usage.
Among the new features ‘coming soon’ to the YouTube mobile app, includes a new “time watched profile,” that will be available in the Account menu and will help to see how much time a user spends on YouTube watching videos.
This usage profile will show daily average watch time as well as “average watch time per day, yesterday’s watch time, and watch time over the past 7 days,” along with a full suite of tools to help users in managing their online watching habits.
In addition to usage profile, also as part of its “digital wellbeing” initiative, YouTube will be introducing other new features, including:
Take A Break Reminder
As the name suggest this feature will help in setting up a reminder to take a break while watching videos on YouTube, and the video currently playing will pause at that interval until it’s dismissed or resumed to play.
This feature “off” by default can be enable or disable in Settings and a reminder can be setup to appear every 15, 30, 60, 90 or 180 minutes.
Scheduled Notification Digest
This feature let you group all daily push notifications from YouTube into a single combined notification. By default the scheduled digest is “off” and can be turn on/off in Settings, so at a specific time that you set up a single notification will appear per day.
Also, because it combines all push notification including live streams, upload and comments—when enabled, you many not see a live stream until after it has ended, said Google
Disable Notification Sounds And Vibrations
It will send a silent notifications from the YouTube app during a specified time period each day to a users phone. This feature will be turned off by default between 10pm and 8am, and needs to be manually turned on to customize the start and end times under Settings.
Users can see these features in the next few days, except the time watched profile, which is said to be coming in another few months. To start using above features you must be on the latest YouTube mobile app version 13.17+).
