Xerox Corp. said Monday it is designing software that automatically removes confidential information from documents.
When users identify a phrase or other data to be removed, the software - called "Intelligent Redaction" - automatically redacts all references to it in a document.
Information on a loan application, for example, could be redacted to bar access to information by some bank employees, while top managers would be able to get at by using a code.
The protected information also would be automatically redacted in other documents. The process ensures a consistent level of security, saves time and increases redaction accuracy, Xerox said.
