Developers who seek ways to create games that could run on any platform, through a new feature "Expanded Resources" in the Fall Creators Update will automatically get "full access" to the consoles' hardware, including access to the GPU, 6 exclusive cores, and 5 GB RAM.
More specifically, this fall, the developers utilizing the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) application model, or are part of the ID@Xbox, or Xbox Live Creators Program, will be able to acess these expanded resources.
The UWP model, which was introduced in July 2015, as a single opertaing system for game development was the outcome of converged Windows and Xbox platforms. "UWP apps created for Windows 10 PCs and Xbox games created for Xbox One could be run side by side on consoles in a specialized environment created for lightweight entertainment experiences."
With expanded resources, UWP game developers gets both a performance boost and a much larger sandbox in which to Dream, Build, and Play, says the team.
