Kandarp on his blog posted about receiving “a message with an audio attachment in Windows Live Mail.” And instead of downloading and playing an attachment, he played it right there in Windows Live Mail. It seems, the Live Mail has added with an audio player control. Google added a similar feature when they started accepting voicemail through Google Talk, powered by the Google Video player.   

Looking at the HTML source, it looks like they are using Windows Media player.
