Windows Live Solution Center, has over 700+ messages to the forum post "Issues With New Windows Live Hotmail. The problems includes: non-familiarity with new look, using older browsers, using Qwest, ActiveX issues, and certain features not working. The live team listed supported browsers: IE6.0+ on Windows, IE6.x, IE7.x, IE8.x (Standards mode), Firefox 3.0+ on Windows and Macintosh, Safari 4.0+ on Windows and Macintosh, and Chrome on Windows – latest major version. And, also advised "If you're using Safari 3 or Firefox 2, please upgrade your browser to be able to use the New Hotmail."

For Browser freeze issues in IE, please try these steps and let us know if that helped or not:
In IE go to Tools > Internet Options > Security > Custom Level... >
Deactivate ActiveX objects.
Log back into Hotmail inbox - then go back and set security to Default level.
