Microsoft's Interoperability team today announced that the production-ready version 3.0 of the Windows Azure SDK is now available.
First, this release has a new Service Management API that makes it easy to scale PHP apps in Azure. To showcase this API, the Interop team built and deployed an app called "Deal of the Day", which allows you to actually win stuff (U.S. only). But, the main point of the app is to show developers how to scale a PHP app in Azure, so the code is available on Github.
Second, it's exciting to see real PHP apps leveraging the Azure platform in production. One example is Hotelpeeps, a Facebook app that leverages the Azure platform to help you find great hotel rates. The code is available on CodePlex (note that it's also available as a PEAR package).
Today, the team also announced Windows Azure Sample Kit for PHP, a new project hosted on github that'll be the primary repository for all sample php code / apps that developers can use to learn how to take advantage of the various features of Azure in php.
"Today we're releasing two samples to the repository: the Guestbook application (example of how to use the Windows Azure storage objects - blobs, queues and tables as well as a simple web/worker pattern) and "Deal of the Day" (abover)."
