Microsoft has released a new build 9926 of its next generation desktop operating system dubbed Windows 10 for Windows Insiders. The new build was showcased at the recently concluded Microsoft's Windows 10 event, and includes a number of new features such as Cortana and an updated UI.

"Some of the new features that Joe demoed on Wednesday will be available for our Windows Insiders starting today with our newest build - 9926," said Microsoft.

"However, not everything you saw on Wednesday is included in this new build. Much is still in-progress and we're getting it out to you as fast as we can. Over the course of the next few builds, you will see us refine Windows 10 and continue to improve the experiences as well as quality and stability," Microsoft added.

In addition to new features (the most awaited start screen and more), Windows 10 also now supports the broadest device family ever - "from PCs, tablets and 2-in-1s to phones to Xbox and the Internet of Things." It adds two new devices to the Windows 10 family: "Microsoft Surface Hub" and "Microsoft HoloLens".

Now, if you're already running build 9879, all you need to do is check for a new build via the PC settings app and it should update you automatically. The latest TP build is also availabe via Windows Update to all Windows 7, and Windows 8 PCs.

"We announced that a free upgrade for Windows 10 will be made available to customers running Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows Phone 8.1 who upgrade in the first year after launch," the software company announed.

To obtain free upgrade, you must first visit the Microsoft's official Windows site, and click on start upgrade their.

If you haven't yet signed up for the Windows Insider program, you can start here. Already, existing Windows Insider participants can hit the download links on the official Microsoft site or the links below get started.

"With this build we further converge our preview build distribution with Windows Update, and the new Settings app (which I'll talk about below) introduces a different way for configuring how you receive new builds from us (whether you're on the Slow ring or Fast ring) as a Windows Insider," added Microsoft.

On the next chapter i.e. RTM, the company said it plans to deliver it over the coming months at Game Developers Conference, WinHEC, Mobile World Congress and Build.
