Microsoft published a whitepaper which focuses on comparing company’s Cloud offerings with VMware. The “Microsoft Private Cloud – A comparative look at Functionality, Benefits, and Economics” document is a free download via the software giant’s newly launched Server and Cloud Platform website.
The whitepaper deals with the basics ahead of anything else, so a definition of a private Cloud is provided to customers.
“A private cloud shares many of the characteristics of public cloud computing including resource pooling, self-service, elasticity and pay-by-use delivered in a standardized manner with the additional control and customization available from dedicated resources,” Microsoft said.
Microsoft goes on to enumerate the solutions that make up its private Cloud, as well as point out the products included in the VMware Cloud Infrastructure Suite.
Over half of the whitepaper is focused on comparing the costs of opting for Microsoft’s private Cloud, vs. choosing VMware’s.
“Our analysis clearly demonstrates that with Microsoft the ROI of your private cloud increases as you scale. VMware approach to private cloud ensures you are “taxed” as you virtualize more workloads, grow your private cloud and scale your business critical tier-1 apps,” Microsoft concludes.
