Microsoft updated the Remote Web Access in “Vail” Windows Home Server. “First, re-designed RWA site, provide an easy, reliable way for users to access their data and computers from anywhere, anytime, on any device. Second, provided an extensible platform for OEM and ISV partners/developers to add tightly integrated remote web access value. The second vision maps exactly to extensibility framework of RWA site.”
Basically, every built-in feature (i.e. Computers, Shared Folders, Media Library, etc) is built on top of extensibility framework. All APIs used are public as well. Besides look & feel and extra functionalities, extensibility framework is the key difference comparing new and old RWA sites.
Let’s look at what developers can achieve with public APIs of RWA site extensibility framework: · Create a new gadget for home page · Create new content page that can be accessed from home page · Create new item in menu bar at top of home page · Add navigational elements to a content page · Create new link in Online Services section of home page · Create mobile version of content page.
All these APIs are fundamental ones. With them developers can achieve way better integrated end-to-end values user experiences for your customers.
