Microsoft made available two new features are available to customers running predecessors of Windows Embedded Standard 7, namely Enhanced Write Filter Provider and File Based Write Filter Provider.

Lynda Allen, Microsoft Embedded program manager notes that the new enhancements are designed to kick up a notch Windows Embedded Standard 2009.

"These new components provide access to the respective Write Filter API through the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) layer," Allen revealed.

"The goal of each feature is to expose the full functionality of the Write Filter to all .NET languages as well as to the Windows Scripting Host. Furthermore, the Write Filter Providers enables remote management of the Enhanced Write Filter or File Based Write Filter."

The new features are rolled into the Window Embedded Standard 2009 March 2011 Feature Update and are also available for Windows XP Embedded SP3. These can be imported into the product database.
