In the latest update on safety, Twitter on Wednesday, introduced a number of changes to reduce abusive content, with the tools to control and communicate more clearly by letting you filter out more notificatiions and content.
In the past, Twitter had already provided users with tools like: report abusive tweets, stop creation of new abusive accounts, safer search results implementation, collapsing abusive or low-quality tweets, and reducing notifications from blocked or muted people's conversations.
To reduce abusive content, Twitter is now working to algorithmically indentify accounts repeatedly tweeting abusive contents (even not reported as of yet) by limiting for a set amount of time certain account functionality such as "allowing only their followers to see their Tweets," said twitter.
New filtering options introduced today gives users more control to mute notifications from certain types of accounts, like those:
- without a profile photo of use default Twitter avatar,
- Unverified email addresses
- or unconfirmed phone numbers.
Muting feature that help to mute keywords, phrases, hashtags, or conversations from notifications—will also now work on Timeline, and let you decide how long you want to mute content from your home timeline. You can now mute the contents for either: "one day, one week, one month, or indefinitely."
Twitter also said it will now communicate users (via Notification tab) when they report abusive tweets or account, and will also inform them about action they take.
They further said, these changes will be rolling out globally in every language supported by the platform in the coming days and weeks. And, that more saftey measures will be coming soon.
