This article describes steps that you can follow to help troubleshoot problems that may occur when you install, uninstall, or upgrade a program on a Windows-based computer.When you install, uninstall, or update a program on a Windows-based computer, you may receive one of the following error messages:
- The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.
- Windows Installer Service couldn't be started.
- Could not start the Windows Installer service on Local Computer. Error 5: Access is denied.
Windows Installer Cleanup utility (MSICUU2.exe) resolved some installation problems but sometimes caused issues with other programs or components that're installed on the computer. Because of this, the tool has been removed from the Microsoft Download Center.
