At many times you may want to shut down a Windows operating system on a Virtual Machine (VM) created using Windows Virtual PC (WVPC). In Windows XP Mode, by default, VM gets hibernated upon closing VM’s window. There’re various ways to shut down Windows on VM:
- Use Windows functionality (Recommended): 1. On VM Windows’s toolbar, click Ctrl+Alt+Del menu item. Alternatively, you can also press Ctrl+Alt+End key combination on your keyboard. 2. This opens Windows Security window inside VM. Click on Shut Down button. 3. On new window, choose Shut Down option from drop down.
- Use Windows Virtual PC functionality: 1. On VM Windows’s toolbar, click Tools menu item, and click Settings in drop down menu. 2. This opens VM’s settings window. On left navigation pane, click on “Close” option. 3. Choose “Prompt for action” option, and then click “OK”. Whenever you close VM’s window, you’ll be prompted to choose which action to take. You can choose to shut down VM. 4. Alternatively, If you want to shut down VM each time you close VM’s window, then choose Shut Down option from drop down menu under “Automatically close with following action:” option.
