Synology unveiled DiskStation DS1511+, a high-performance NAS server that offers greater scalability, significant storage capacity and full-featured business NAS solutions for SMB users, offering 15TB storage across its five drive bays, with external expansion options increasing overall storage to 45TB.
DS1511+ is powered by a dual-core, 1.8GHz processor, 1GB RAM--upgradable to 3GB, twin LAN sockets to provide failover protection, link aggregation, Synology quote read-write speeds of 197 MB/sec and 165 MB/sec respectively, in a RAID 5 configuration.
The server is supplied with DSM 3.0 operating system, providing a swathe of business-class features including Windows Active Directory integration and ACL support. iSCSI support provides hosts with the illusion of locally-attached disks -- virtual server platforms including VMware vSphere, Microsoft's Hyper-V and Citrix XenServer are all supported out of the box.
Other features include: support for JBOD, RAID 0, 1, 5, 5+Spare, 6 and 10 disk configurations, as well as Synology's own Hybrid RAID storage protection. Windows and OSX Time Machine backup support and the usual vast array of consumer-oriented features are also offered, including DLNA/uPnP media streaming, photo and audio players, network IP cam management as well as iOS and Android apps for media playback.
