Logitech Squeezebox owners who want to try out Windows Home Server Vail Preview seemingly have a dilemna. As WHS v1 add-ins are incompatible with Vail, Logitech’s Squeezebox Server add-in for the platform willn’t work with the platform. That means no music streaming in Vail, Wrong? It’s likely to be some time before the Squeezebox Server add-in is updated to run on Vail. However, Logitech’s developers state that the regular Windows version of Squeezebox Server should run without any issues on Vail. To install, download the Squeezebox Server application for Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 and copy over to a shared folder on your new Vail installation. Then, use a Remote Desktop Connection (Start > Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection) to log-in to the home server and install as you would on any other PC. You’’ll be able to configure Squeezebox Server using the application directly on the home server. Once again, remember that Windows Home Server Vail Preview is beta software – therefore you should ensure your music is safely backed up on a v1 home server or other storage device.
