This tool is intended to correct a problem in SQL Server Management Studio on systems which are upgraded to DPM 2010 retail version from Eval or intermediate DPM 2010 builds (Beta, RC).
When you install DPM 2010 Beta, DPM 2010 RC or DPM 2010 Evaluation and upgrade the product to a retail version of DPM 2010. Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio has two issues.
- Issue 1: SQL Server Management Studio does not start, and you receive an error message.
- Issue 2: SQL Server Management Studio starts. But on the Help menu, you receive the message that SQL management tool will expire in number day
This issue occurs because SQL Server Management Tools are not upgraded in the upgrade to System Center Data Protection Manager 2010. This tool is fixing that.
More specifically, the upgrade process of DPM 2010 does not cover the SQL Server Management Tools.
Fortunately enough, the SQL Edition Upgrade for Data protection Manager 2010 (DPM) Instance tool is now available free of charge via the Microsoft Download Center to make up for that.
Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2010 "delivers unified data protection for Windows servers such as SQL Server, Exchange, SharePoint, Virtualization and file servers -- as well as Windows desktops and laptops," Microsoft stated.
