Microsoft completed the rollout of SQL Azure SU3 and now available are some exciting new features, alongwith 6 data centers around the world.
“This enables everyone to be able to create databases around the world, closer to where the usage will be. Beyond having your data closer to your location, the paired data centers help provide the ability to get redundant warm databases closer. To set the paired redundant copy, you’ll need to use new preview of SQL Azure to SQL Azure sync capabilities.”
New features include: “50 GB Database Support lets you now store even more data in a single SQL Azure database; SQL Azure now offers support for the Geography and Geometry types as well as “spatial” query support via T-SQL; HierarchyID is a variable length system data type which provides you the ability to represent tree like structures in the database; Public preview of SQL Azure Data Sync Service; Office 2010 Support for SQL Azure offers native data connectivity support from Microsoft Office (e.g. Access, Excel and PowerPivot) to SQL Azure databases.”
