Microsoft’s Office Division announced the additional details of the upcoming Service Pack 1 for Office 2010, SharePoint 2010 and Project & Project Server 2010.
“Service Pack 1 is on track for release at the end of June 2011. It will be available for all of the Office 2010 applications, including Microsoft Project Standard 2010, Microsoft Project Professional 2010 and Microsoft Project Server 2010.
SP1 will be made available. All language versions of SP1 will release simultaneously. Initially, SP1 will be offered as a manual download from the Download Center and from Microsoft Update, and no sooner than 90 days after release, will be made available as an Automatic Update.”
At first, SP1 will be offered as a manual download from Microsoft Update but, after 90 days, it will be available via Automatic Update. SP1 will contain updates that improve stability, performance, and security. Below is a sampling of SP1 updates:
- Better IE9 browser experience
- Improved Web Apps functionality and SharePoint database performance
- Updates to all 40 SKU languages for Office, including Galician, Basque, Catalan, Serbian Cyrillic
- Updates to Access 2010, FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint, Office Web Apps, Project 2010, and Search Server 2010, and Visio 2010
Each product in Office and each Server capability area will have changes in SP1. Specific changes will be detailed on TechNet and in KB Articles. On release day, we will publish all associated KB articles on this blog for reference.
